An international museum and cultural stakeholders’ conference enriched by satellite events, organized yearly at the Benaki Museum in Athens, Greece. It acts as a global platform of expertise for the wellbeing of cultural organizations and the communities they serve, fostering the production and exchange of ideas and the facilitation of networks between culture and arts professionals from all over the world. Founded in 2011 by one of the leading cultural organizations in Greece, the Benaki Museum, in collaboration with two prime stakeholders in culture and education, the U.S. Embassy in Athens and the British Council, this is more than a conference.
Building on the theme of last year’s program on “Museums and Justice”, the 2024 CoMuseum Conference will delve deeper into how museums and cultural organizations, as trustworthy institutions, can contribute to enhancing people’s lives by addressing the challenges of fair treatment. Critical responsibilities taken up by museums, like fostering diversity and sustainability, adopting restitution policies and provenance research, and facing disinformation will be explored among other themes relating to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA).
